Collecting GPK - OS 3 Box Break
As I've mentioned before I'm going back to the days of my youth and am putting together all the previous Garbage Pail Kids sets. I plan to do this buy purchasing a full box of most series and then buying or trading for singles after. Legend has it that for the majority of OS sets a full box should garner you a set. Is that true? Let's find out!
First some of my personal ground rules I'm setting for myself: 1) I'm looking for nice pack fresh cards. Which is why I'm busting boxes. I know its more expensive this way. But its way more fun! 2) I'm looking to complete all sets with variations and errors. 3) I will accept off centered cards, unless really bad, 90/10 or worse I will discard. 4) No gum stained cards for my personal sets. Right off the bat that eliminates 48 cards from each box. 5) I will accept cards with wax, I'll be using the panty hose method to remove the majority of the wax. If I can't get the wax off, I won't use the card.
Series 3 Box Break
What I busted/was expecting: I bought a first printing Series 3 complete box, 0-490-21-01-6. 48 packs should equal 240 cards. I was hoping this box would contain both the Copyright and No Copyright cards.
Results: Regular Set - 78/82 Variation - 5/6 Error - 0/1 Copyright - 0/40 Doubles - 106 Damaged Cards - 48 (gum stained) Total Cards - 237
Review: I enjoyed busting this box very much. This brought me back to my youth since Series 3 was one of the series I had cards from as a kid. Lots of memories. The centering on the cards wasn't horrible, sure there were a few not so great ones, but most were acceptable. I got close to a set, missing only 4 cards and 1 variation. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get any of the Copyright variation cards. I will have to round up those Copyright cards and the few extra I'm missing from other collectors. Fun break!

Collecting GPK - OS 4 Box Break
As I've mentioned before I'm going back to the days of my youth and am putting together all the previous Garbage Pail Kids sets. I plan to do this buy purchasing a full box of most series and then buying or trading for singles after. Legend has it that for the majority of OS sets a full box should garner you a set. Series 4 Box Break
What I busted/was expecting: I busted a first printing Series 4 complete box, 0-491-40-01-6, which contained packs with the following code 0-491-21-01-6. 48 packs should equal 240 cards. I was hoping this box would contain a complete Series 4 set without the 7 name change variation cards what were produced in later printings.
Results: Regular Set - 84/84 Variation - 0/7 Doubles - 156 Damaged Cards - 0 Total Cards - 240
Review: You read that right, 0 damaged cards? How can that be you ask? Let me start by saying this box was in really nice shape. The box contained both a Retail Ad Poster and a small sales flier. The packs looked untouched. I could tell this box had been stored well over the years. I have a number of boxes (Series 6/7/8) I bought from the same seller so my hopes are high those boxes will be of the same quality. When opening the packs I discovered something a bit surprising, the gum wasn't stuck to the cards, and beyond a little powder that was easily brushed off there were no stains on the cards from the gum. On top of the nice packaging the packs all contained 5 cards. Centering was also much better than previous releases. The best part is I was able to make a complete set based on the print series this box came from. I only need to acquire the name change variation cards and my Series 4 set will be complete. Another fun break that was highlighted by the condition of the box/cards.

Collecting GPK - OS 5 Box Break

Series 5 Box Break
What I busted/was expecting: I busted a first printing Series 5 complete box, 0-490-40-03-6, which contained packs with the following code 0-490-21-05-6. 48 packs should equal 240 cards. I was hoping this box would contain a complete Series 5 set including all variations.
Results: Regular Set - 77/80 Variation - 7/8 Doubles - 108 Damaged Cards - 48 Total Cards - 240
Review: This was an interesting break. I'm shocked I got as close to a set as I did. The collation was just awful in this box. I had multiple packs that had the same card! I also noticed quite a few cards that I would describe as blurred. I would get 2 of a card; one picture would be crisp, while the other one blurred. This happened quite a lot in the break. I didn't include those as "damaged" cards above in my breakdown, but I also did not use those in making my personal set. Now unlike the Series 4 box I busted, this box has the usual gum stained cards. I consider myself lucky I was only 4 cards short of a set. Overall this was the lest fun break I've had, the production quality from Topps was down right awful. On to the next series...

Collecting GPK - OS 6 Box Break

Series 6 Box Break
What I busted/was expecting: I busted a third printing Series 6 complete box, 0-490-40-06-6, which contained packs with the following code 0-490-21-10-6. 48 packs should equal 240 cards. I was hoping this box would contain a complete Series 5 set including all variations.
Results: Regular Set - 88/88 Doubles - 152 Damaged Cards - Total Cards - 240
Review: Nice clean break in this Series 6 box. The box I busted was well kept over the years, and at some point has cellophane put around it. The cards in the packs had very little damage from gum stains, a lot of it was just powder that could be easily removed. WIth no variations or errors in the 6th series I expected to ket a full set, and that's what I got. I will say there were a few cards with centering issues, but luckily I didn't have to use any of those to make the set. The box had enough nice looking cards. With no variations this was a anti-clamtic break, but it gets be one series closer to my goal.

Collecting GPK - OS 7 Box Break

Series 7 Box Break
What I busted/was expecting: I busted a first printing Series 7 complete box, 0-490-40-07-6, which contained packs with the following code 0-490-21-11-6. 48 packs should equal 240 cards. I was hoping this box would contain a complete Series 7 set, but figure only one set of the changes.
Results: Regular Set - 84/84 Variations - 4/4 Changes - 0/3 Doubles - 152 Damaged Cards - 0 Total Cards - 240
Review: Nice break in this Series 7 box. Another nice clean box that someone at some point put cellophane around. As with a couple of previous boxes the gum was loose in the packs and did not leave stains, just a powder that could be easily wiped off. Since this was a first printing I didn't pull any of the name changes as I expected. Going to have to pick those up down the line. Cards were in good shape, nicely centered, and very crisp. Another box down, off to Series 8!
